Aleksandra Osowska
I am a Polish ceramic artist and the creator of OTOOKA — an evolving world of handbuilt ceramic beings, vessels and “stories”.
I studied Ceramics Art and Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław. My artistic path began with painting and image-making, and my move towards ceramics came from a desire to give my images a physical presence — to turn ideas, feelings and fragments of imagination into objects that could exist in space, be held and lived with.
My work draws from nature, mythology, psychology, different cultures and their ways of understanding the world, as well as the mysterious landscapes of our inner lives. I create figures that often take the form of guardians, companions or creatures from an imagined mythology. I am interested in the space between the familiar and the unknown, and in the ways an object can hold something that is difficult to name — a memory, an intention, a feeling or a story.
Many of my sculptures contain small inner spaces — hollows or shelters that suggest the hidden parts of ourselves. I also return to plants, animals and natural forms, allowing the boundaries between the human, the natural and the imagined to remain fluid.
Each piece is built entirely by hand, without moulds or casting.
At the heart of my work is the idea of a ceramic form as a body for an intention — something that can become more than an object: a companion, a talisman, a quiet presence.
OTOOKA is an ongoing world, and each new piece is another small being entering it.
